Tetracycline is the most prescribed antibiotic for acne. It must be taken on an empty stomach to be effective. It works on acne in 2 ways. First it reduces bacteria in the follicles and skin surface and second, it acts as an anti-inflammatory. The problem with this med is, it’s a wide spectrum antibiotic which means, it also kills the "good" bacteria. It has lots of side effects including upset stomach, nausea, GI disturbance, and yeast infections.
Accutane is similar to Vit.A. It works by altering DNA and decreases the output of sebaceous glands. It’s considered the most effective drug against severe acne, but may cause certain serious side effects such as dry skin, itching, chapped lips, mild nosebleed, joint pain, temporary hair thinning, depression, hallucination, etc.
Consult your Dr to get the best moisturizer for your skin. Certain skin needs certain types of moisturizer.
tetracycline is an antibiotic, which is produced by the Streptomyces bacterium. It can treat both acne and bacterial infections as well.
while accutane is a retinoid, meaning it derives from vitamin A.
It can treat acne but can’t treat bacterial infections.
