Tetracycline shouldn’t be taken with milk The reason is not because there are side-effects but rather that tetracycline binds to the Ca in milk and the Ca-tetracycline complex is not absorbed through the stomach wall and into the child’s blood where it is needed. The reduction can be up to 80%, meaning that the child is effectively not receiving the dose at all.

Paul H is correct. But generally tetracycline is not prescribed to young children because it can be absorbed by the developing enamel of the teeth. Once the teeth erupt, an unsightly grey line is apparent.
