Tetracycline?
I started taking tetracycline twice a day for acne. My dermatologist said that it would be ok if I took it with food. I’ve done some research on it myself, but everything says to take it between meals & not with milk products. I’ve been taking it with a small breakfast because it makes me nauseas otherwise. I’ve also been trying to eat some yogurt product at some point each day because I don’t want a yeast infection. However, I used to take a muli-vitamin, iron, & an antioxidant, but stopped all of them because I don’t know how to take them all together. Please help
I am also trying to find out if it might make my acne worse before it gets better- kinda like clearing out the impurities??
you take it with food to prevent nausea. milk interfers with the action of med. you can eat yogurt later in the day. if you don’t have nausea you could take it between meals. There are a number of med. that produce nausea and will inst. to take with food. If you take vitamin at night it won’t affect your appetite[compliments of weight watchers.]
Yep, worse before better is almost always the way its going to work when trying something new. Stear clear of the dairy. A serving of yogurt a day should be ok, but dont go drinking a lot of milk. If you feel better taking it with food, do that. With or without food, its getting into your blood stream, so just do what makes you comfortable. Stick with it too…results can take some time to see (many times 12 weeks show results) so if it is getting worse, you just have to trust the doc on this…and if after that time its not working, there are plenty of other options out there. Good luck!
U cannot take this med with ur vitamin. U have to take the vitamin at least 2 hours after the tetracycline. No u can’t take it with dairy products, and yes it is supposed to be taken on an empty stomach; however, if it makes u sick, u have to take a little food. Can u take it with some crackers or dry toast 1 hour before breakfast and dinner, and then u can take ur vitamin at lunch.
Ask your pharmacist. They know more about medications and their particulars that MD’s do.
tetracycline, ideally should be taken 1 hour before meals or two hours after. If your doc said you could take it with food then thats fine. Avoid taking iron supplements and avoid taking it with dairy products. These were my instructions when I took tetracycline for acne many years ago. I took it for two years. If I could go back I would not have taken it. I believe it had long term health effects. you might consider alternatives to the antibiotics.
Don’t take tetracycline with food because it will cause nausea. Never take it with dairy products because it will make the discomfort greater. In fact, on your bottle, it’s required to say take on an empty stomach.
You cannot take an iron supplement within 1-3 hours of taking tetracycline.
I have issues with dermatologist and their drug knowledge. I knew someone who got drug induced diabetes insipidus from doxycline and the MD was ignorant of that potential side effect.
Look dear tetracyclines may be of low to moderate lipid solubility or high lipid solubility.
The first as tetracid or oxytetracid are incompletely absorbed orally & affected by meals, absorbtion is decreased by milk ,calcium ,magnisium & aluminium. So better take them on empty stomach & lessen meals containing such elements. The 2nd group as vibramycin & minocin is not affected by meals but their absorption is decreased by the same elements,so for better results, take them as I told you on empty stomach & stop milk & milk products.Ok.
I hope I could help.
