Is neomycin related to erythromycin?
I аm allergic tο erythromycin. I recently hаd surgery аnd wаѕ putting Neosporin οn mу incisions. Aftеr getting a mild rash around thе incisions, I read thе ingredient list οn thе Neosporin аnd saw thаt neomycin wаѕ a main ingredient. I read thаt rash/blistering іѕ a sign οf allergy tο neomycin, аnd given mу οthеr allergy, I јυѕt wondered іf neomycin аnd erythromycin wеrе related.

They are not related chemically; erythromycin is a macrolide antibiotic and neomycin is a aminoglycoside. You might just be unlucky and be allergic to both, or the rash might be a sign of something else (e.g. irritation from some other ingredient, sensitivity to the tape/dressings)
Stop using it and change to something like bacitracin. If you are sensitive to sulfates, you can get a cross reaction from Neomycin.
I have no idea if they are related but I have a severe allergy to erythromycin myself and I try to stay away from anything that has "mycin" in the name. I was rushed to the hospital after i had been given a "mycin" drug for an infection after I got my wisdom teeth pulled.
