No. Erythromycin is designed to target infections. If there isn’t one all the action of the medication is directed elsewhere and that’s not good. One of the side effects of this medication is that it causes gastrointestinal problems in many people. Unless you were exposed to a biological warfare agent, I would advise not taking erythro or anything else as a preventative measure.
I wouldn’t take erythromycin unless it is prescribed for a specific condition for which another antibiotic is unavailable or for strep infections in someone allergic to penicillins.. Erythromycin is one of those medicines which can cause a drug induced colitis. It is therefore not a good idea to take erythromycin as a precaution for anything.
You shouldn’t take any antibiotics for precautionary measures.
You don’t want your immune system will build a tolerance to them. When it is time for you to actually need them for something, they won’t work.
This is the reason Doctors prescribe heavy does at once, and they only prescribe them for a short period of time. Usually only for 3 to 5 days, then they tell you to stop taking them.
I wouldn’t do that….
