Erythromycin?
I’ve been prescribed the above drug (250mg x 4 daily) for throat/chest problems as I’m allergic to penicillin. Since taking it (2 days now) I’ve had really bad stomach aches, diarrhea and nausea (no vomiting). There’s no signs yet of the throat/chest problems clearing up at all. Am feeling in a pretty bad way as I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME as well and so can barely get out of bed at the moment.
Should I continue taking the antibiotics as normal? Will the side effects get better or will they be as bad/get worse until I’ve finished the course of these antibiotics? [I'm 15 by the way...]

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop using erythromycin and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:
chest pain, uneven heartbeats, feeling light-headed or fainting;
nausea, stomach pain, low fever, lost appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); or
diarrhea that is watery or bloody.
Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue taking erythromycin and talk with your doctor if you have any of these less serious side effects:
mild nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or stomach pain;
dizziness, headache, feeling tired;
vaginal itching or discharge; or
mild itching or skin rash.
Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.
If you have stomach problems taking antibiotics ,you m ust immmediately stop taking it and consult doctar for replace it with new medicines.
you need to let the doctor know that your throat and chest are no better he may want to change your medicine to something that will work for you.
Erythromicin, in common with many other antibiotics, can make you feel pretty cruddy. Unless you are really sick with it, conintue taking it until you see your doctor to get them changed. Antibiotic resistance can occur when you do not complete a course of anti-biotics - if you don’t complete a course, the bugs have had enough usually for them to build up a resistance, but not enough to wipe them out. the next time you take that or a similar anti-biotic, the bugs ‘remember’ and the drugs don’t work as effectively, if at all.

your allergic to the meds. Now is a good time to do this

No, you need to call the doc and see if he can put you on something that will make you feel better, not worse. Side effects usually get worse, not better. There are other drugs out there that can help. Erythro is not the only one.
Call and insist on something that won’t make you feel sick to your stomach. That just complicates everything.
Erythromycin should NOT be taken on an empty stomach. Doing so will cause really bad stomach pains, and can cause nausea, as well as throwing up. I can’t say if the diarrhea is caused by it or not. I just know from my past experiences what it’s done to me. To be safe, call the doctor’s office - they must have an emergency number - and ask them.
If you’re not eating, you need to do the BRAT diet while you’re feeling this sick. Broth - Rice - Apple Juice - Tea, and you can add some warm ginger ale to that list as well, along with Jello if you feel up to it, as well. Make sure you’re drinking fluids - not just water, which has no calories or nutrients. While you’re sick you can easily deplete your system of vital minerals, like Potassium, which is what will make it lots worse - you won’t have the energy or strength to get out of bed. You need some Gatorade or something like Pedialyte that has the electrolytes to help you while you’re this sick.
