Does Erythromycin inhibit Escherichia coli?
In ουr lab experiment wе tested antibiotic Erythromycin. A zone οf inhibition οf 9mm wаѕ observed. Hοwеνеr, I hаνе read thаt Erythromycin саnnοt penetrate сеrtаіn gram-negative cells. Iѕ іt trυе thаt іt саn inhibit 50S ribosomal subunit formation іn E.coli?

Sorry not all E. coli are the same. Some strains are inhibited by Erythromycin, others, however, are not.
"Erythromycin and other macrolide antibiotics inhibit protein synthesis through reversible binding to the 50S ribosomal subunits of susceptible microorganisms." The key to the answer is in the word "susceptible."
Part of the problem of indiscriminate antibiotic use is some organisms become resistant.
If you noticed a ring of inhibition, then the strain of E. coli used is probably not resistant.

Yes.
If nothing else, if you’ve ever taken a course of it for an infection, you’ll notice how unstable your stomach gets. It’s havoc on gut flora.
