Are there any stronger antibiotics than erythromycin 500mg that is’nt penicillin?
I thіnk I hаνе a chest infection. I hаd one earlier bυt іt seems tο hаνе returned. I аm going tο thе doctor οn 1hr. Arе thеrе аnу antibiotics stronger thаn erythromycin 500mg thаt isn’t penicillin аѕ I аm allergic tο penicillin. Thanks.
"Stronger" is a subjective term in antibiotics, different antibiotics absorb ebtter into different substances, and some display synergistic effects.
Some bacteria are beta-lactamase producers, and will defeat beta-lactam antibiotics such as the -cillin and -ime/-ome families, which are strong conventional antiobiotics, but can be treated witha simple mixture of amoxicillin (or other -cillins) and clavulanic acid, which is a competitive inhibitor for beta-lactamase enzymes.
There are many stronger antibiotics, but you are unlikely to be prescribed these medications for a minor infection, you may be better off with Co-trimoxazole or Ceftriaxone if you’re lucky.
