No antibiotic should be used long term or too frequently. Bacterial resistance can result as well as superinfections. These are opportunistic infections. Systemic antibiotics, such as doxy, work on all bacteria in your body not just the pathogenic ones (those that can cause disease). Without the benign bacteria to keep the pathogenic ones in check, your body is left vulnerable to superinfection. And all meds have adverse effects. It’s not worth it.

Long term use of ANY anti-biotic is not a good thing. It can lower your Immunity, make anti-biotics less effective when you need them, discoloration of tooth enamel, upset the normal bacterial action in the intestines, etc. I think 2 weeks is long enough for anyone to be on an anti-biotic for most bacterial infections.
