I have a bladder infection and am in extreme pain. I found an old bottle of Doxycycline 100mg they expired in?
Thеу expired іn august οf 07. Wουld thеу still bе effective tο take? I саn’t gеt tο a doctor until monday аnd need tο ѕtаrt taking something now. !

1. While I don’t know the circumstances here, you probably shouldn’t have an old bottle. Take prescriptions until they are gone unless a doctor tells you otherwise. If you don’t, the infection can come back much worse, and you are contributing to antibiotic resistance, which is becoming a very serious issue in health care.
2. Expired medications may not just be ineffective, they can be dangerous/toxic.
3. Like the pharmacist said, Doxy isn’t effective against a UTI.
4. If you’re in that much pain, you can go to a hospital before Monday. You don’t want the infection to spread to your kidneys.
Hope you feel better soon.
its dangerous to be cheap regarding your health. see a doctor before it gets really bad.
I’m a pharmacist. I would not take medication that old. Also doxycycline is not effective in treating bladder infections. You should go to the doctor.
if its only a Urinary tract infection there are over the counter pills you can take that numb it down there. you will pee a bright orange but… it helps lots! you can get it at Walgreen’s, target or i get mine at albertsons. if the pills are expired i would not take them …
It is not dangerous to take the drug ..but it may have lost some of its potency.
If I were you i would take the meds and hope they would at least help enough so I could actually get to the Dr.
When I get UTI I am going pee every 5 min…and that makes it almost impossible to even get there.
Drink lots of water and the pain will be more bearable.
When you go Monday, make sure to get an updated back-up prescription.Good Luck
