Acne should respond to a doxycycline acne treatment within five to six weeks. This will vary for different individuals, but the standard time frame is three to six weeks. Some patients may also find their acne gets worse before it improves.
Calcium, in milk, supplements or antacids (such as Tums) may interfere with tetracycline-based antibiotics, including doxycycline.
I assume you have also ruled out common food allergies that may cause acne (for example, milk, eggs, nuts, fish, shellfish, soy, wheat) before going on a permanent antibiotic regime that can have side-effects.
