There is a generally held belief that alcohol should not be consumed while on a course of oral antibiotics. This advice is correct if a patient is taking metronidazole, cephamandole (may cause a disulfiram-like reaction), and possibly oral ketoconazole (may cause facial flushing). However there is no contraindication to the consumption of alcohol with other antibiotics.
See the generic name on the antibiotic you are taking (it is differnent from the brand name) and see if they belong to the group of antibiotics listed above.
Hope this helps.
When one is on any antibiotic one should not drink alcohol at all. It may hinder the effectiveness of the meds. My daughter had to take doxycycline. She HAD to eat something about an hour before taking it or it wouldn’t stay down. You may want to consider this side effect of nausea before drinking also. Best answer: Be sensible
There is no harm if alcohol is taken while receiving antibiotic therapy of CIPROFLAXACIN and DOXYCYCLINE.
well NORMALLY the pharmacy will place warning stickers on your bottle or give you verbal warning about things to avoid. My pharmacy even hands out papers on EACH medication stating what it’s for, side effects, how to take the medication, etc….If it’s possible call your dr or your pharmacy to be absolutely sure. I have taken both of the antibiotic’s you mentioned but I don’t remember if I was told not to drink alcohol.
