YOU CAN GET PREGNANT WHILE ON BIRTH CONTROL IF YOU TAKE ANTIBIOTICS….. PLEASE CALL YOUR DOCTOR OR THE PHARMACY, AND THEY WILL TELL YOU THE SAME THING.. I GOT PREGNANT WHILE ON BIRTH CONTROL AND ANTIBIOTICS AT THE SAME TIME AND SO DID MY SISTER:(
Antibiotics affect the efficacy of oral contraceptives, but only slightly. The statistical difference is quite tiny, but of course going from the general to the specific, if you’re one of the "lucky few," it’s of little solace.
It’s difficult to say whether the doxycycline will reduce the efficacy of the birth control agent sufficiently to "cancel birth control." It’s probably best that you supplement with additional contraceptive methods.
no antibiotics and birth control are two different things, doxycycline kills bacteria, birthcontrols are hormones preventing pregnancy, since birthcontrol is not a bacterial infection it will not effect it
Drug interactions are interactions between two or more medicines that may, or may not, occur. Some drug interactions are very likely to occur, but none are 100%.
Antibiotics and birth control medicines do interact. The antibiotics may alter your bacteria flora and effect levels of hormones absorbed from birth control medicine. Also, they may effect estrogen levels by revving up your liver. Hence, there is no way to accurately predict the chance of the interaction from person to person-from situation to situation. Therefore, you must use an alternate form of birth control while on antibiotics. Unless, you want a twenty year accident.
