Can doxycycline get the pus out of my boil and/or make it go away?
I saw a doctor yesterday for a boil on my armpit (dealing with MRSA). I thought he would’ve lanced it with it being quite big, but he prescribed doxycycline and said that it should help drain it. But wouldn’t it need to get lanced first and then the antibiotic clears up the infection? Can this antibiotic actually help clear it up without lancing? And, if it wouldn’t, would it mean that my body is immune to it or it’s not effective?
First off, if your MD has given you a scrip for Doxy, you DO NOT have MRSA!!!! The only thing that can attack MRSA are powerful antibiotics that you need to have pumped into your body by IV’s in a hospital setting. If you have MRSA, you would be feverish, the boil site would be a red, angry swollen mess and growing by the minute…..fast!!!
No doctor can just LOOK at a boil and KNOW what antibiotic to prescribe. To get a true read on the bacteria causing it, your boil contents need to be cultured (swabbed and grown in the lab, for true identification). I should know because I had MY primary care doctor who did the same thing and when he got the test results had to pull me off the anit’s he gave me the week before and put me on a different course of anti’s because I was taking the wrong drug to kill the bacteria my wounds were harboring. Doxy is a wide spectrum antibiotic and will kill MANY types of bacteria but will it be the right GUESS by the doctor. I could do the same thing for you, geesh. No one knows for sure unless it is cultured properly.
Your body is NOT immune…..it means that you have the WRONG drug. Go back and DEMAND to have it cultured!!!
Bet he will have egg on h is face when he learns the error of his diagnosis.
I have Hidradentitis Suppurtiva…..35 years now.

Make the doctor work for you. If he doesn’t, get a different one and tell him that!!!
definitely any anti biotic should help try ciplox– without lancing
