Possibly this could be an initial reaction and will clear up. Check the insert that came with it, if that doesn’t answer it, call and ask the pharmacist who filled it or the person who prescribed it.
5% is very, very strong. It’s only to be expected that it might irritate your skin. If I were you, I would downgrade to maybe 2.5% or even find some hypoallergenic skin care products. Your dermatologist can make a recommendation.
These drugs speed up the destruction of the bacteria that are at the root of the pimple, and the material that sloughs off fills up the blemish faster as a result. This is actually a good thing and a sign the drugs are working.
It is common for acne to temporary worsen, slightly, the few days upon starting it in your new skin regiment. If the benzoyl peroxide causes SEVERE sensitivity, such as peeling, redness, and inflammation, then stop use and consult your dermatologist as soon as possible. Remember to moisturize with a non-clogging oil-free facial lotion.
Not all skin care works for everyone, so tell your dermatologist what works for you.
