Benzoyl Peroxide is very harsh on skin, and has been shown to cause cancer in lab animals – and that’s not paranoia. If you read the fine print on any prescription BP product, by law it’s required to disclose that information. Not good stuff!
What will fade your scars? Natural acids. There’s prescription Retin-A, if you’re looking to get something heavy duty. You can also look for drugstore products that contain retinol, alpha-hydroxy, beta-hydroxy, or glycolic acid; there are many. These have all been clinically proven to help smooth and remove scar tissue and give you a more even complexion. Best of all, these acids can be found in cleansers, toners, and creams.

Benzoyl peroxide is a common ingredient in acne cleansers. I won’t pretend to be an expert here, but given the fact that it’s in things like Proactiv it must have some sort of positive effect on skin tone.
