Accutane should be a last resort. Ask about an antibiotic treatment. That's what I'm on and it works great, combined with a prescription gel. I know two people who took accutane, and both had very scary side effects from it. One became extremely paranoid and suicidal.

NO WAY IN HELL. That is what the boy that flew his plane into the Bank of America building was on. I also used to work with a teen boy that was on that and his behavior changed drastically. He ended up getting fired. He was just totally off the wall.

I would not have no problem in allowing them to take accutane. I was on accutane for over a year for my own acne problems and it did take care of them. The only side effects I did see were dryness of the skin, lips, nasal passage, and eyes. Otherwise there were no side effects for me.

i've heard it does wonders for your liver.

i know acne is a painful thing to have to go through. I've suffered for 7 years now and its just now finally starting to go away. as he gets older it'll get better. just have him keep good care of it and not pop the pimple because that will only lead to scarring.
proactive, acne free, topical lotions will at least lower the ammount and reduce the chances of scarring.

I had a friend who went on Accutane for acne and I watched him go from a sweet, friendly guy to psycho dude. It really messed with his mind. I would want to discuss it with my son first (if he is an older teen, say 16 or 17) and exhaust all other options before I considered this drug as my friends story is apparently not uncommon.
