Will Accutane get rid of acne faster if its the type of acne that's underneath the skin?
I have it very severe on my back. I have been on for 3 weeks now and my doctor said it is a 5 month program. I have not seen any change since i started it, if anything it looks worse. I have been on 20mg of accutane, so when I go in for my next appointment is will the dermatologist put me more 30-80mg because of the severity of my acne?
Tips for acne treatment
1. DON’T TRY TO WASH IT AWAY
Acne isn’t caused by dirt. In fact people with oily skin have cleaner skin than average because they wash it more often. But it’s a fact that washing too much can make acne worse because it makes the skin dry and sore. So, wash no more than twice a day, using mild soap and water. If you have patches of dry skin, don’t worry about putting moisturizer on. It won’t make your acne worse. If you’re still concerned, use an oil free moisturizer.
2. DON’T NUKE ‘EM
There are lots of over the counter creams, gels, lotions and potions. Most contain a powerful bleaching agent called benzoyl peroxide. You’ll find the strength written on the label. You might be tempted to go straight for the highest sort, working on the ‘let’s nuke ‘em principle. The likely result is that you’ll irritate your skin like mad. It may also go all dry and scaly on you. But if you still are willing to bleach then use the mild one.
3. MAKE A DATE - THE TWO MONTH RULE
If you have been using over the counter remedies for two months and there is no real improvement in your spots, this is the moment to go and make an appointment with your doc.
4. YOUR DOCTOR - THE TWO MONTH RULE
The thing you are most likely to be given by the doctor is a prescription for antibiotics. These will either be topical (which means something you put on your skin) or tablets you have to take every day. Whatever treatment your doctor or pharmacist recommends, follow the instructions carefully and keep using for at least two months. There should be a noticeable improvement by this time. If not, go back to discuss other possible treatments Antibiotics are perfectly safe to take. You should take them for at least two months and then go back to your doc. If they seem to be working, he will probably tell you to keep taking them and give you some more. If they aren’t doing their stuff, don’t despair - he has loads of other spot busters in his black bag.
5. YOU ARE NOT AN ALIEN - BUT JUST BE PATIENT

dude the mg dose is based on your weight / body type / height / …. I didnt have really bad acne but I wanted that shit gone… Dr. prescibed 40mg twice a day… that shit worked so well stick with the program… With Accutane you dont have to use other products but a topical substance wont hurt… it’ll just dry you out more which means you’ll have you use more lotion… There is tons of information post on the web about Acccutane.. I should have learned all I could about it first but man am I glad I did it…
Your doc may have started you on a lower dose the first month because you do have the deeper lesions. Some with very bad acne can flare the first month on accutane. The lower dose helps to prevent that. After that firsst month you will probably get a higher dose. Many on accutane will get better from the beginning, but there are many who take several months. 4-5 months is typical, but it will be determined by your response. If you are concerned about the amount of flare, call the doc to see if you need a different medication temporarily in addition to the accutane.

Yes. Accutane helps all kinds of acne. It is true that acne can often get worse on medications before it starts to get better. You’re only at 3 weeks, so be a little patient. Everyone I know that has taken Accutane (including my brother) has had great results with it. Dermatologists prescribe it all of the time, so I’m sure your will know what you need according to you acne type. Good luck! I’m sure you will be clear before too long : )
I’ve tried a lot of medications before but haven’t really help. As a last resort i choose natural remedies. I found that it has the real power of curing my acne. I’ve tried it and it really works for me, in less than one week you can already notice a lot improvement. I hope it helps you too.
Don’t worry, it will get worse before it gets better, and it may take a while to start to work. Hang in there and finish the 5 months. The doctor may or may not up your dosage, it depends on what he feels is the best thing to do.
Acne Rid or remove
STOP popping the spots, also known as pimples and zits. This may make the pimple look worse due to inflammation and irritation. Popping a zit can spread infection under the skin and produce even more pimples than before. If you do pop a spot then immediately clean it with soap and water or rubbing alcohol in order to prevent infection. If a pimple erupts in a particularly bothersome place, learn how to target a single pimple. And if you’re determined to pop, learn how to pop a pimple safely and properly. If you do pop a pimple and you want to avoid anything resembling Western medicine, one thing to try is put a mixture of honey and ground cinnamon on the spot. Put a band-aid on it also. You may also want to stay away from stress.
Remove any make-up you have on. Wearing make-up can clog pores, making them dirty and causing pimples. Also try to wear oil-free makeup (if you have oily skin) or a medicated makeup.
Use a mild soap for sensitive skin but it doesn’t matter exactly what type of soap you use. It can be designed for acne-prone skin or not, but you will want to treat your skin gently. Harsh antibacterial soap may actually make your acne worse by irritating skin.
Remove dead skin cells regularly by exfoliating. Use a gentle scrub with natural defoliants like ground walnut shells, or use an over-the-counter chemical defoliant like salicylic acid or glycolic acid. Adding ground walnut shell to a thick moisturizer like cocoa butter can be effective too. Take caution, because over-exfoliating can actually increase the likelihood of acne by irritating the skin. Pat dry, rather than rubbing, since rubbing can cause irritation to the fresh skin you’ve just revealed.
Use a good toner. Spray onto face or wipe on with a cotton ball and wipe off with a clean, dry cotton ball. This gets rid of excess cleanser and tightens pores. Good, inexpensive choices include plain witch hazel for normal to dry skin, lemon juice, or 3% hydrogen peroxide for oily skin. 70% ethyl rubbing alcohol can also be used for severe oiliness, but it can really dry out your skin and irritate it more. Some toners are medicated, and this stage is the best for using a medicated product if you’re only going to use one medication.
Did you take oral medication first. With 4% Benzol Peroxide ? In the shower and a topical cream.
I’d do that and if it fails try the accutane.
Also small doses of the sun help a lot. (Not tanning)
Pimples under the skin are usually refereed to as cysts which is the most severe type of acne. You can tell it is cystic acne which is sometimes called nodulocystic acne because they go deep into the skin. Cystic acne is on of the rarer types of acne, although not uncommon it is the form of acne which develops later into scaring which can also cause a another problem.
The scars usually look like red patches covering the skin and are hard to get rid of when on the body but respond better to treatment when located on the face. These scars are called "pseudo scars" because they are not a true scar, they only last up to about six months. So even if the cyst has gone you will still be left with a reminder each day, Because the scars resemble the cyst in color and shape. But if you don’t not access the right treatment for your acne the scaring could be permanent.
Isotretinoin is a common treatment used to cure pimples under the skin, but isotretinion is more commonly known as Accutane. This treatment was first used in the 1930’s creating a noticeable difference in sebum production. How it works is by killing diving cells which are the cause of cystic acne, it is also used to treat some cancers such as brain cancer and pancreatic cancer.
Isotretinoin is usually used when no other acne treatments produces results such as use of benzoyl peroxide. Restrictions are quite high when trying to get hold of this drug and can only be prescribed by a dermatologist because cystic acne can sometimes cause permanent scaring in a short amount of time.
Adverse effects to taking isotretinoin are dry skin, eye irritation, mild acne flare ups, back pain or more uncommon inflammatory bowel disease, depression and psychosis. If taken during pregnancy it will most likely cause birth defects, so it is not recommended if you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant.
