You do realize that Accutane is the most powerful acne medication on the market, right? There is nothing your doctor can give you that would work better than Accutane in clearing up your skin. Trust me — I’ve been having bad acne problems for over a decade, and I’ve tried pretty much EVERYTHING. Take it from me, Accutane is the ONLY thing out there that will help you.
Instead of switching you to another medication, your dermatologist will most likely just tell you to keep taking the Accutane until you start to see results. The reason why you haven’t been noticing results yet is because Accutane typically takes 4-6 months to clear up a person’s skin. Since you’ve only been taking it for three months, you shouldn’t give up yet. Just try to be patient and keep taking it every day. Keep in mind that Accutane doesn’t work for some people the first time around, and so they must be "retreated" for an additional 4 to 6 months in order for the Accutane to clear up their skin. Accutane barely did anything for one of my friends with really bad acne during her first 6-month course, so her doctor gave it to her for another 6 months and that’s when she started noticing results.
Just be patient and keep taking it. That’s the best advice I could give you. Nothing else is going to help you. Let the Accutane run its course and if your skin hasn’t cleared up after six months of taking it, then consult your doctor about possibly starting another course.
