How long should I continue taking Accutane for?
I hаνе taken Accutane fοr 4 months now аnd mу face hаѕ cleared 99%, ѕhουld I take іt fοr a 5th month? Mу doctor hаѕ tοld mе thаt I hаνе cleared up аnd іt υѕ up tο mе аnd mу parents whether I want tο take іt fοr another month οr nοt. Hе ѕаіd thе dіffеrеnсе іѕ minimal tο taking іt fοr another month
it’s good to hear that accutane is working for you. it would probably be best to take it for the fifth month. the chances of the acne coming back once you’re off accutane will be smaller that way. to help with your decision, you can calculate the cumulative dosage you will have taken. the recommended cumulative dose is 125-150mg/kg. to calculate your cumulative dosage, multiply the dosage in milligrams you’ve been taking by the number of days you’ve taken it (do this multiple times and add together if your dosage has changed) and divide it by your weight in kilograms. if your cumulative dosage comes out to be between 125-150mg/kg, it would probably be okay to stop taking it. if you haven’t reached that high of a cumulative dosage yet, it would be best to stay on the drug for the fifth month to prevent acne from returning.
I guess it depends on whether 99% is good enough for you. Or whether you are concerned that your acne might flare up again if you stop taking the Accutane. Could always trying not taking it and see how things go. If you change your mind, could always ask for a new prescription.
