How bad does your acne have to be to be put on Accutane?

Sο I wаѕ wondering hοw bаd acne hаѕ tο bе tο bе рυt οn Accutane, bесаυѕе I really want tο gο οn іt bесаυѕе I heard іt’s very powerful аnd effective, bυt I don’t know іf ѕhе′ll lеt mе. Anybody know?

You could probably use it. One of my friends was on it in high school and her skin wasn’t horrible. Probably like your own. You should ask about it.
I don’t know how "bad" your acne has to be to go on it. If you’re seeing a dermatologist and ask to be put on it I’m sure they will but BE WARNED: by boyfriend went on it, and it was the worst!! It dried up his skin so drastically that he started getting cracks and cuts in his skin, and rashes on his hands. His lips got so dry that they cracked and bled like every time he spoke. Accutane is serious stuff, so unless you HAVE to…. I wouldn’t recommend it.
Accutane is only indicated in Cystic Acne (Instead of small pimples you get larger cysts).
Can mess up liver and lipids in blood.
Be not to eager for it. Your Dr. knows what you need; and if gets to that she’ll know what to prescribe.
Actually as long as your dermatologist is for it anyone can be on accutane. You don’t just have to have the scaring kind because I don’t and I was on accutane once and now am on it for the second time. I have horrible acne and NOTHING worked except for this….pills, differin, pro active….I’ve literally gone through it all. The first time i was put on acne it did clear up my skin better than anything else but not totally which is why i’m on again. You have a 40% chance of it clearing the first time and 60% chance clearing the second but it WILL definitely get better. My dermatologist said it’s the closest thing we have to a cure today! The bad thing is it’s an absolute pain in the butt to get. You have to answer questions online, take monthly pregnancy tests (if your a girl), and see your dermatologist every month cause if you get pregnant while on it there will be birth defects. This is because of the high dose of vitamin A so after you finish the drug that’s finished. The worst side effect I’ve had is the chapped lips, dried skin, and my hair fell out slightly till i got special shampoo. Like I said it is a pain in the butt however I’ve had acne since I was 9 (and I’m now 22) so I was willing to do anything to get rid of it. Use lots of moisturizer if your on it and chap stick and you’ll be fine. I recommend Aquaphor healing ointment for chap stick because it’s amazing and will really help. Plus if you do get too strong of effects you can cut your dose down and instead of finishing in 5 months make it 10 or something. It doesn’t matter the time frame just how much in the long run you’re getting.
FACTS
======
One of the most common ways of treating acne is the use of retinoids. Retinoids are substances derived from Vitamin A, which attempt to cure acne by normalizing the lifecycle of follicle cells. There are two types of such substances, based on application: external (topical) and oral. The best known external retinoids are Retin-A, Differin and Tazorac, while the oral retinoids list is headed by the popular Accutane.
However, about one quarter of the patients who used Accutane or other drugs based on isotretinoin may relapse and require additional treatment.
But the biggest drawback of retinoids is the long list of side effects, which sometimes makes retinoids look like a disease rather than a cure.
The most common side effects are dry skin and nosebleeds. Many patients have also reported liver problems, while a few complained of depression. However, the scientific community is still split on the issue of depression. More seriously, isotretinoin is known to cause birth defects, which is why female patients have to use two separate forms of birth control or vow abstinence during the treatment. Pregnant women are not allowed to use anything but the mildest treatments.
The bottom line is that retinoids are a good idea if one can cope with the side effects. This begs the question: why not use something just as effective, but without the side effects. Acne treatment systems, such as ClearPores: http://www.clearpores.com/clicks/clickthrough.html?a=150901 are also popular because of their success in dealing with the condition, but lack the extreme side that makes retinoids a pain to use. The choice between these treatments is yours.
